What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are long chains of DNA, often sourced from salmon or trout sperm DNA. These highly purified DNA fragments are suspended in water and available as injectables. Different brands of polynucleotides have varying percentages of highly purified polynucleotides (PN-HPT). I have researched various brands and selected those with the highest concentrations and most suitable for my patients’ needs. I’m excited to offer Plinest, formerly known as Plenhyage and I offer Newest, a hybrid product containing both polynucleotides and hyaluronic acid. This combination allows us to lift, plump, and regenerate your skin effectively. Nucleofill, Illuma and Vitaran and I can tailor it to your specific needs.

How They Work

Polynucleotides work through a multi-faceted mechanism once injected into the skin. They are absorbed gradually, integrating seamlessly into the skin without causing any lumps. Their primary actions include:

Stimulation of

Fibroblast Activity:

Polynucleotides prompt fibroblast cells to proliferate and increase their activity. This leads to enhanced cell renewal, resulting in boosted collagen production, improved hydration, and a more radiant skin appearance. Consequently, the skin becomes more resilient and elastic, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Antioxidant Properties:

These molecules act as potent antioxidants, scavenging free radicals that would otherwise cause cellular damage. This protective function helps maintain the integrity of skin cells and prevents premature aging.

Wound

Healing:

Polynucleotides signal the skin to enter an intensive repair mode, which aids in healing wounds, improving scars, reducing stretch marks, and addressing various skin texture issues. This repair process also enhances skin tone by reducing discoloration.

Polynucleotides in Hair Restoration

Polynucleotides are also used in hair restoration treatments to stimulate hair growth and improve the thickness and quality of hair follicles. They promote blood circulation to the scalp and enhance the proliferation of hair follicle cells, leading to stronger and healthier hair.

Application Methods

Polynucleotides can be administered through various methods in aesthetic treatments:

Mesotherapy

Injections of polynucleotide solutions are delivered directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin) to target specific skin concerns and promote tissue regeneration.

Microneedling

Polynucleotide solutions are applied to the skin during microneedling procedures to enhance the penetration of the active ingredients and stimulate collagen production.

  • Benefits of Polynucleotide Treatment to the Face

    • Skin Rejuvenation: Polynucleotides stimulate cell growth and promote tissue regeneration, leading to improved skin texture, tone, and overall appearance.
    • Wrinkle Reduction: The regenerative properties of polynucleotides can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in smoother and more youthful-looking skin.
    • Increased Skin Elasticity and Hydration: Polynucleotides enhance the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, essential components for maintaining skin elasticity and hydration.
    • Improved Skin Tone and Pigmentation: Polynucleotide treatments can help even out skin tone, reduce hyperpigmentation, and enhance skin radiance.
    • Enhanced Wound Healing: Polynucleotides accelerate the healing process of wounds, reducing the risk of scarring and promoting faster recovery after other aesthetic procedures.
    • Non-Invasive and Minimal Downtime: Polynucleotide treatments are non-invasive and typically require minimal downtime, making them a convenient option for individuals seeking quick and effective skin rejuvenation.

  • Aftercare Recommendations

    • Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect your skin from direct sunlight and UV radiation by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily. Sun exposure can increase the risk of hyperpigmentation and compromise the results of the treatment.
    • Gentle Skincare Routine: Use gentle and non-irritating skincare products formulated for sensitive or post-procedure skin to cleanse and moisturise the treated area. Avoid using harsh exfoliants, retinoids, or active ingredients that may irritate the skin.
    • Avoid Touching or Scrubbing the Treated Area: Refrain from touching, rubbing, or scrubbing the treated area to prevent infection, irritation, or disruption of the healing process.
    • Hydration and Moisturization: Keep the skin well-hydrated by applying a moisturising cream or serum regularly to maintain the skin’s moisture barrier and promote healing.
    • Avoid Intense Physical Activity and Sweating: Avoid intense physical activities, saunas, steam rooms, or excessive sweating for at least 48 hours post-treatment to minimise the risk of inflammation and irritation.
    • Follow Up with Your Healthcare Provider: Schedule a follow-up appointment with your dermatologist or aesthetic physician to monitor the progress of the treatment and address any concerns or questions you may have.

  • Precautions

    • Consultation with a Qualified Professional: It is essential to consult with a qualified and experienced healthcare professional to determine the most suitable treatment plan and ensure the desired results.
    • Allergic Reactions and Side Effects: Although polynucleotide treatments are generally considered safe, there is a risk of allergic reactions or side effects. It is crucial to discuss any allergies or medical conditions with your healthcare provider before undergoing treatment.

  • The effectiveness of polynucleotide treatments varies based on several factors:

    • Initial Skin Condition: The extent of skin aging prior to treatment.
    • Regenerative Capacity: The skin’s inherent ability to regenerate high-quality tissue when stimulated.
    • Lifestyle Factors: Personal habits and environmental influences that affect skin health.
